Commercial fishing vessel

Protection cover for larger fishing vessels.

This type of policy provides protection for fishermen with vessels valued in excess of NZ$1 million. It is based on London Institute Fishing Vessel Clauses and includes cover for:

  • Loss or damage to the hull, machinery and equipment whilst afloat or ashore as a result of the perils specified in the policy;
  • Loss or damage to fishing gear as a result of fire, lightning, theft or as a result of total loss of the vessel;
  • Legal liability incurred through the use of the vessel for:
    • Damage to another vessel from collision.
    • Loss of life or bodily injury to other people
    • Removal of wreck
    • Damage to other property such as wharves, buoys, cables etc.;
  • Diversion expenses to land sick or injured crew or passengers;
  • Fine or penalties imposed on the vessel, owner, master or crew and defence costs for any act of neglect or inadvertent breach of statue which the assured has agreed to pay under contract.
    Extensions are available to the policy to include protection for:
  • Loss of catch landed on board the vessel;
  • Additional perils (machinery damage).
