Vero Marine has a specific, Plain English policy wording that covers specified perils, and is based on the Institute Fishing Vessel Clauses. “Fisherman” is a policy wording specifically designed for owner-operated fishing vessels up to 30 metres in length and NZD 1,000,000 in value.

"Fisherman" provides cover for:

• Loss or damage to the vessel, dinghy and fishing gear whilst afloat, ashore or being transported on a land conveyance.
• Accidental physical loss or damage to the vessel’s trailer from an external cause (an optional cover).
• Loss of catch held on board the vessel (optional).
• Legal liability incurred through the use of the vessel for:
  • Damage to another vessel from collision
  • Loss of life or bodily injury to other people
  • Removal of wreck
  • Damage to other property such as wharves, buoys, cables etc.
• Punitive or exemplary damages.
• Legal defence costs for representation at Maritime New Zealand, TAIC or Coroner inquiries.
• Defence costs for alleged breaches of New Zealand’s Resource Management, Maritime Transport or Health & Safety in Employment Acts.
• Legal liability for claims made as a result of an employee sustaining personal injury arising out of operation of the vessel.
• Mortgage repayments, where the vessel is prevented from earning as a result of a risk covered under the hull section of the policy (an optional cover).
