Vero Marine has tailor-made a Plain English policy wording that covers specified perils, and is based on the Institute Fishing Vessel Clauses. “Fisherman” is a policy wording specifically designed for owner-operated fishing vessels up to 30 metres in length and NZ$1,000,000 in value. Excesses no longer fall under Clause 12 (General) and Clause 13 (Additional Machinery Damage). One excess per section applies. "Fisherman" includes cover for:

• Loss or damage to the hull, machinery and equipment whilst afloat, ashore or whilst being towed on land.
• Loss or damage to fishing gear as a direct result of total loss of the vessel, fire, lightning, or theft.
• Accidental physical loss or damage whilst gear and equipment is on board the vessel, or whilst being loaded or off-loaded from the vessel.
• Legal liability incurred through the use of the vessel for:
  • Damage to another vessel from collision
  • Loss of life or bodily injury to other people
  • Removal of wreck
  • Damage to other property such as wharves, buoys, cables etc.
• Punitive or exemplary damages up to $250,000.
• Legal defence costs, including representation at Maritime New Zealand, TAIC or Coroner inquiries.
• Legal liability for claims made as a result of an employee sustaining personal injury arising out of operation of the vessel.
• Fines, penalties and defence costs for inadvertent breaches of New Zealand’s Resource Management, Maritime Transport or Health & Safety in Employment Acts (except fines under the Health & Safety in Employment Act).

• Mortgage repayments, where the vessel is prevented from earning as a result of a risk covered under the hull section of the policy.
• Loss of catch landed on board the vessel.
• Accidental physical loss or damage to the vessel’s trailer from an external cause.
